MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 446

Welcome to the 446th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday, the second of December and final puzzle of 2020. The winner will receive an MP3 download code courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of both mystery clips, which are connected by a theme. Each person gets one guess to start – if no one answers correctly in the first 24 hours, I'll post a hint. After the hint, everyone gets one more guess before Wednesday at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Good luck!

Answer: Congrats to @experiencechuck on his fourth MJM win, crossing the halfway mark to the Hall of Fame! This week it took him no time to crack the Winter Jams theme, quickly identifying the 2/24/03 "Twist" and the 12/17/99 "Split Open and Melt." MJM is taking the rest of the year off, but we'll be back the second week of January. Happy Holidays!

sumac22 Nice win @experiencechuck! Knew that first jam had to be 2.0 era, but hadn't really thought of Twist. Figured that second jam had to be a Melt, and guessed it was from '99. Looked at the summer tour but hadn't gotten to the winter! Congrats man! See y'all next year... (Hopefully in-person too!)

experiencechuck thx! I’m a fall 99 fiend and I know that Melt p well, the lil brother to 12/4 & 12/30, so I got that one on the first guess

as for the other I JUST listened to that show after the Halley’s entry two weeks ago, so I knew I had heard it.. still checked a bunch of other 03 jams first before I found it though!

First off, good job. Second, It pained me to see Split Open and Melt referenced as SOAMelt when that treatment should be reserved for the lesser SOAMule. Then it got me thinking about how many times they actually played SOAM and SOAMule in the same show. Turns out it was 33 (Thanks ZZYZX Show Finder!) and the breakdown is below. Last time was 1/3/15. Was there ever a time a person was scribbling the setlist during the show and accidentally wrote down "SOAM" twice, realized the mistake, was too wasted to remember which song was performed first, and stubbornly declined to request the help of other showgoers in an attempt to prove to themself that they could remember on their own? Perhaps Phish's ever-growing songbook is not the reason it has been nearly 6 years without a SOAM/SOAMule pairing. Maybe Trey has already pondered this hypothetical setlist scribbler and has decided to take pity on them.

experiencechuck it... pained you??

just trying to be both quick AND specific, since it’s a time sensitive contest.. I didn’t expect a sort of Spanish Inquisition! I usually just type Melt (see my second comment)

Pained was a gross exaggeration. I was just ripping on Mule. I know very well the time constraints of this game! Good job again and have a wonderful and safe holiday and New Year.
