Jam Chart for Walls of the Cave (11 entries)

Date City Timing Notes
2002-12-31 New York, NY 18:17 Debut, which includes an excellent "Type II" section beginning about 11:00 that eventually returns to "WOTC."
2003-02-14 Inglewood, CA 23:13 Despite its duration, most of the jam section is essentially "Type I" with some interesting instrumentation. At about 18:00, the jam finally breaks free of "WOTC" into a nice low-key section that -> to "Carini."
2003-02-22 Cincinnati, OH 19:57 Extended "Type I" jam with building energy.
2003-02-25 Philadelphia, PA 19:01 Around 13:00, the jam breaks into an effects-laden groove, although it is not far removed from typical "WOTC." Returns to the standard at 17:30 to wrap up.
2004-06-19 Saratoga Springs, NY 20:11 Straightforward until 12:55 when the jam breaks into a nice "Type I" outro jam. This jam settles briefly, then builds into a great "Type II" jam with some melodic licks from Trey that preview the catchy riff he seizes on in the following day's "Ghost."
2004-06-24 Noblesville, IN 12:23 "Type I" version includes a "DwD" jam from 9:10 - 10:25.
2004-08-09 Hampton, VA 17:34 Aggressive, in-your-face "Type I" version.
2004-08-14 Coventry, VT 15:19 Jam breaks from the standard at 11:00 into a mellow groove that builds energy and > to "Runaway Jim."
2021-08-06 Noblesville, IN 12:28 Fish adds an extended flourish on the snare at 7:02, which is only a brief look at his fantastic work during this version. He's matched by some aggressive play from Trey in a jam that stays within the bounds of the song.
2022-05-31 Charleston, SC 15:10 A refreshing jam (and set placement) in this first version since '04 to significantly deviate from the typical format. Extra effects use loosens things up early as it dips into a short-lived, but moody darker segment, and then the jam brightens considerably at 10:00 with Trey and Page pairing up nicely for dual leads, before finally working its way back to "WoTC" to conclude.
2022-09-03 Commerce City, CO 16:21 Another version that breaks form with grime out of the gate and then develops a "There is a Mountain" theme before dipping back into the muck at 11:30. From there the jam eventually winds its way into uplifting territory once again for an exuberant peak.
Jam chart versions are selected because of improvisational and other characteristics that distinguish these from typical versions of the song.
The jam chart team has highlighted some versions with a yellow background; these are the versions the team believes to be especially improvisational, or otherwise notable.
A purple date indicates that you were in attendance.
