MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 285

Welcome to the 285th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday, the last and most difficult of July. The winner will receive an MP3 download code courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of each of the three mystery clips. The clips are connected by a theme, but the theme needn't be part of the correct answer – though it should help you get there. Each person gets one guess to start – if no one guesses correctly, I will post a hint on Tuesday around 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET, after which each person gets one more guess before the correct answer is revealed on Wednesday around 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Good luck!

Hint:
Even though I sat at home, I did not miss last Sunday's show.
Nor buy a ticket, just for face; nor watch the webcast! No, Your Grace...

While on the same day these clips fell,
not Sunday! The real theme shows its spell...

Answer: I guess there aren't as many GoT fans out there as I thought – the Sunday show to which I was referring, Your Grace, is of course Game of Thrones. All three of these clips did fall on the same day, Saturday, and the real theme is the Sunday show the clips spell: 11/7/98 "Ghost," 10/2/99 "On Your Way Down," and 10/7/00 "Twist." With this win, the Blog is now old enough to drink legally in the US! Given the recent light participation on the MJM, for the month of August, we'll stick with easier MJMs. Stay tuned for MJM286 on Monday.

andrewrose Throwing this out there in an attempt to avoid a blog win, cause I gotta get some work done before I leave early on Friday to finally get me some donuts.

That sounds like a riddle to me in which the answer is Madison Square Garden. And that first clip sounds a hell of a lot like the 12/30/98 Down with Disease, though I'm finding it hard to be 100% confident. Either way it leads me to believe that the clips are all from shows at MSG that either land on the same day of the week (Wednesday?) or date in the calendar (12/30?), but I've not been able to locate the other two...

mickeyjoe86 I'll hazard a guess, though I'm pretty sure it's wrong:

AC/DC Bag 11/7/1998
Wolfman's Bro 9/11/1999
Waves 8/2/2003

All songs from the Sunday show on Saturdays.

Actually sounds to me like the first jam might be the 11/7/98 Ghost that follows. But what that means for the hint I have no idea...

uctweezer I'll give you guys till a little after noon PT today for any last second heroics. No one has cracked the hint yet about shows on Sunday, that's for sure.

andrewrose A bit of a stretch, Pete! That said, I knew the 'your grace' thing was significant and feel stupid about not clueing in to that considering I too, did not miss last Sunday's show (though i watched it on Monday). What can I say, primarily Phish on the brain ATM. Can you blame me?

Also wow, Trey really relied on that effect a lot in late 98 huh?

I wouldn't call it a stretch per se – it was supposed to be difficult after all... I considered just posting a picture of Emilia Clarke but figured that would be a dead giveaway (especially given how few O songs there are).

And yep: that effect screams '98, though Trey has busted it out over the BD, which is cool. Now if he'd bring back the siren...

lysergic I think the clue was legit -- I pieced together the reference to Game of Thrones, the fact that the shows were on the same day, and the notion that there was a spelling aspect to this week's MJM. I just didn't have the time or the skill to track down the mystery clips.
