VENUE LIFECYCLES

Phish has performed in 775 venues thus far. Many have come, many have gone - and this chart summarizes them all, with the total numbers of venues played for the first and last time in each year. Venues were of course heavily "gained" (played for the first time) during the band's 1990-1994 growth - though many were "lost" (played for the last time) in each of those years as well. Indeed, more were lost than gained in '91 and '94 - and then in every year from '97 onward, with the decline in the number of shows and the resurgence of multi-night runs at the same venues.

Kurtzboy I'm not sure I understand. Does "lost" refer to closed? Or simply not played anymore? Gained refers to played at for the first time in the given year?

conradjohansen I think "lost" refers to last time played and "gained" is played for the first time.

Kurtzboy So, Red Rocks, which was last played in 09, falls under the "lost" category in 09?

niceTshirt Cornfusing. What's needed in the description is an example. Something like, "For example, in 1995 Phish played for the first and only time at the Will Rogers Auditorium in Fort Worth, Texas — thus amounting to one venue gained and one venue lost." Looks like a killer setlist, too.

I would assume so.

CannedWalrus I find this quite intriguing... So many played for the very last time in 1994 - shows how many less-than-decent venues Phish matured from to move on to larger stages and venues. Nice trivia!

GotABlankSpace Wouldn't every venue played in 2011 be considered a "lost" venue, in this case, because Phish hasn't played any of them since-being that 2011 is obviously the most recent tour? Maybe I'm just cofusing myself, I don't know haha...

TREYPHACE this chart makes me wish they would tour like it's 94 lol
