MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 192

Happy Summer Tour Eve, and welcome to the 192th edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday. The winner will receive an MP3 download courtesy of our friends at LivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of the mystery jam clip. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. Good luck!

Answer: With his sixth win, @PersnicketyJim joins @mcgrupp81 and @ucpete on the precipice of emeritus-hood, identifying the 12/5/99 Taste.

uctweezer Nice win @PersnicketyJim -- this is the closest we have to a Type II Taste, but again the MJM was won before I even listened (and it would've take me a bit for sure). Just last year @TwiceBitten pointed this version out when the MJM was the Meatstick from the same show -- which @PersnicketyJim also won!:

Yeah, absolutely crushing it. He and I both have 6 wins, but he's won 6 out of the last 24 or something obscene, while it's taken me years...

Hey, I've been playing for a while, too. It just took me about 50 MJMs to develop a particular method, which I'll gladly divulge after one more victory. Emeritus status is right there waiting for us @uctweezer and @mcgrupp81. That said, your ability to recall the blog details is freakish itself, @uctweezer.[/quote]

As long as that method isn't "built a Shazam library of all circulating recordings", I'm curious to hear your method! Mine is simple:

1) what year / era does it sound like?
2) what kind of venue does it sound like?
3) what key is the jam in?

And once that's narrowed things down a bit, I peruse the jam charts and poke around.

forbin1 Damn..I wish I had a better method...I've only got one win in the mmj...and it was kinda luck...I noticed a few people said it sounded like a Gin...I started listening to all the Gins..and luckily it was an early version and I was able to identify it quickly...haha

MiguelSanchez My method is similar to @ucpete's first 2 steps. Granted, it's far less effective, and that's why I've only got 2 (maybe 3) wins under my belt. Hell, one of my wins has big asterisk next to it.

Haha, basically, if I don't know the jam right out of the gate, I'm toast. When I think I have a half way decent hunch, I throw it out there. I'm still salty I lost the round that was the 10/29/98 reba. I know that jam backwards and forwards. I went out to walk the dog, listen to it, and confirm it. When I got back, someone had already nailed it.

Had to think about the asterisk win for a second, before I remembered the @unphriendlyghost debacle. So glad the troll is gone...
