MYSTERY JAM MONDAY PART 223

Welcome to the 223rd edition of Phish.Net's Mystery Jam Monday. I've posted three clips this week -- these three clips share something in common. To win, be the first person to identify the song and date of each of the three mystery jam clips, and answer what the three clips share in common. Each person gets one guess per day, with the second “day” starting after I post the hint -- each guess should contain three songs / dates, and a guess at the commonality. No sharing or trading of answers is allowed. A hint will be posted on Tuesday if necessary, with the answer to follow on Wednesday. The winner will receive an MP3 code good for a free download of any show, courtesy of our friends atLivePhish.com / Nugs.Net. Good luck!

Answer: Congrats to @scvhice who won his fifth MJM by correctly identifying the 10/11/95 Mike's Song, the 3/31/93 Harry Hood, and the 3/11/90 Roll Like a Cantaloupe – he also noticed that all three of these jams have TV show theme teases in them. In doing so, he takes home yet another free download code – who's gonna take one home next week?

ekstewie1441 One of these times it's going be like five Bouncin' intros and then it's going to be *really* hard.

(Not that it needs to harder...I get pretty excited just to think I know the song from one of the clips....or is clip 2 a trick? Was there a Hood jam in some other song?)
, comment by stevemott
stevemott 7/18/99 Hood
4/10/94 Hood
5/17/92 Hood

Commonality: All Hoods (and all from NY state, Oswego, Buffalo, Schenectady).... maybe??
, comment by justino
justino Student: Did you grade my Great Gatsby paper yet?
Me: No. I was too busy trying to figure out Mystery Jam Monday.
Student: Did you win?
Me: Hell no! But it sure beats grading papers!

7/13/03 Seven Below
12/5/95 Hood
10/31/87 Bowie

All dates have been dates previously featured on MJM?

Funny enough, I was thinking about that just this morning: having a 30 second clip from Bouncing for an April Fool's MJM. It'd have to have a small flub or something distinguishable in it, or else it would be damn near impossible. What I didn't consider was having FIVE of them!

melt_the_tek9 10-11-95 Mike's (Compton Terrace, Chandler [Tempe] AZ)
11-25-95 Hood (songs after the first ever rotation jam in Mike's)
7-23-88 Mike's (first ever Weekapaugh groove played)
Might have to do with the fact that Mike's has been played 500 times??

WayIFeel @melt_the_tek9 I think you're close but I'm not convinced you have all three clips.

10-11-95 Mike's
12-05-95 Hood
8-21-87 Mike's

Theme: There's a DEG tease in all three shows

Wow, just noticed that @justino had the same Hood.

schvice All three contain teases of TV show themes:

10/11/95 Mike's (Star Trek)

3/31/93 Hood (Pink Panther)

3/11/90 Cantaloupe (Bonanza)

Well, he did link to the relevant segments on PhishTracks if there's any doubt!

mcgrupp81 Don't peak too early @ucpete! Another stellar job. Trey's tone on that Hood is gorgeous.

That reminds me -- is it a faux pas to post the links? I always do that, and I always immediately wonder if maybe I shouldn't have. Obviously the game is over either way (assuming the answers are correct), but without the evidence being right there, maybe folks would continue guessing a little longer, until you weigh in? I don't know, is it better to extend the fun a bit, or just shut it down and save people the frustration?

Also, thanks for another quality MJM! You're coming close to fulfilling the dream of the fully type-1 challenge. As you and @ekstewie1441 pointed out, that's gonna be harder than we think. Especially since we're all gonna be convinced it's a trick, and not actually three BATRs.

melt_the_tek9 Wow nicely done!!!
The second that Compton Terrace Mike's started I knew what it was at first note; one of my favorite shows ever. But these other two, I didn't have enough time to really search out the first show for themes. I will return stronger!

Oh, I never even thought to consider it a faux pas. Back when I was on your side of the fence, I loved it when people posted time-stamped links so I'd know I could stop working on it! Otherwise there were some weeks with like 30+ random guesses, and sometimes I'd check all of them that looked like possibilities to make sure that it wasn't solved yet. I always posted the time-stamped links when I won too, but each time as a second post -- as soon as I found the answer I'd post it immediately in fear of getting scooped, and only when I knew I was first, I'd add the links :) I suppose that fear is lessened these days with the triple clip + theme MJMs, instead of the "The MJM was posted almost an hour ago, am I too late??" classic format MJMs.

So it's certainly not bad form in my estimation, and if someone really wanted to keep 'playing' without knowing the answer, they probably shouldn't look at the comments anyway. I'd be curious to hear if anyone does have a problem with it... though I don't think that's likely.
