Top 9 Animal Songs That Phish Plays

9. “Fly, Famous Mockingbird” – People are always saying, “That’s ridiculous, a bird couldn’t carry abook.” But I think it could. It could grip it by the husk.

8. “Piper” – First, imagine a red worm. Now imagine a red red worm. That “mind = blown” sensation you’re feeling right now is the essence of “Piper,” Phish’s finest worm song.

7. “Guelah Papyrus” – This song documents the exponential expansion of a virus, the smallest living animal known to man.

6. “Moby Dick” – This Led Zeppelin cover celebrates the giddy exploits of an albino whale, the largest living animal known to man.

5. “Contact” – This torch song imagines a car as a living beast whose headlights are eyes and whose stick shift is a phallus. WTF.

4. “Bug” – Song 1 in Phish’s Kafkaesque and slowly-unfolding “Nihilist Cockroach Trilogy.”

3. “Prince Caspian” – I know what you’re thinking: Prince Caspian was a man. But dig: men are human beings, and human beings are technically animals. You can look that shit up.

2. “Fee” – This story of a seafaring weasel inspired the James Cameron cinema classic Titanic, with Leonardo DiCaprio as “Fee,” Kate Winslet as “Millie,” Bill Paxton as “Floyd,” and a cameo by Cameron as “Megaphone Trey.”

1. “Vultures” – This is the tune that ignited the late 90s throat-potatoing craze, which is why every potato sold these days comes with a parental warning sticker.

johnnyd No "Dogs", no "Your Pet Cat", no "Birds", no "Ocelot", no "Wombat" ...?

The staff's clear anti-3.0 bias continues to appall.

HotPale I believe that a virus is not considered to be part of the animal kingdom by many due to the nature of IT's life cycle and requirements to sustain life, but Guelah Papyrus is a badass tune!

sniggins No Antelope is a crime of the mind, especially with a cover song listed here.

Speaking of which, Moby Dick was a sperm whale (an albino one), but blue whales are "the largest living animal known to man."

Fun list though.

tweezedout Is the Mockingbird European or African?

lumpblockclod Whether the Famous Mockingbird could carry a book is really beside the point. The book in question is, in fact, a helping, friendly book. Thus the book itself helps the Mockingbird carry it. It's almost as if some people haven't been listening to a word Trey has said.

EsthersDoll Bug? Seriously? Better than Birds of a Feather? I don't think so.

I think you'll find that all of the posts in this earnest series are completely factually accurate. Please check again.

Trey told us himself, from atop a JEMP Truck, that we are not getting the message.
