Icculus wrote a great review of one of the strangest weekends of my life. I had walked away in 2000 right before they announced the hiatus. At that point, my decision was based on the obvious (to me) downgrade in the quality of the music, the attitude of the phans and the general erosion of the scene. I made a point of not going to ANY 2.0 shows. I listened to a few, saw Trey once and moved on. I was not, however, going to be shut out of the 'final ' Phish show. I dragged my GF to her first show (sorry D), parked at a farm near the site and hiked on in. The scene was miserable and the music was awful. I had exactly the time I would have wanted. Much like a proper Irish wake (as mentioned above) it was sad times, tears and a raging party to send off a beloved family member. The sadness that I felt watching Trey barely able to preform reminded me too closely of how I felt watching Jerry in '95. We danced, we cried, we raged and then we all went home. I will never listen to the audio from these shows. any more than I will ever listen to my last Dead show. Thankfully, Trey (seems to have) pulled it together and the boys will grace us with many more years of musical beauty and joy.
