J_D_G The low points of Coventry are very hard to listen to, of course. In terms of improvisation, though, the weekend offers any number of jams that are far beyond anything played in, well certainly 2011 at least, if not all of 3.0. The trend extends to that whole summer tour. Painful, saddening, and frustrating---in large measure *because* it was so good. Soul-stirring music of a sort the band has not approached since. Of course, the tradeoff is a happier, healthier guitarist whose life is now much improved. But now that the darkness has cleared, and some of the painful bitterness retroactively lessened, perhaps it's easier to listen to that music as music, separate from the context. I'd trade the whole 2011 summer tour for the Great Woods 04 Birds of A Feather. Why? Because it kicks the ass of anything they've done since.
