deceasedlavy Pretty cool little piece. It's too bad that Phish no longer exemplifies this adventurous spirit. I still love the band. They still occasionally take me to a place no other band can. They're just not interested in taking "the audience to a new level of appreciation of music" any more, or showing "that beauty and joy in music is not limited to any particular genre" or "The beautiful joined with the improbable to surprise and delight". That was certainly what got me into Phish. Now they just play rock and roll and sometimes jam for a little while, which is still pretty cool sometimes. It's more about the songs that we all know and love now, and the familiar paths that these songs can take us down. But reading this piece just makes me sad that they're so content now with just being what they are, and makes me wish they were still interested in redefinition. Haven't lost hope, though; maybe the complacency will fade, and they'll get hungry again. Here's hoping! At least the happiness, the joy, is there again.
