The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
In my opinion, Trey's symphonic tour is the highest achievement made by a musician of this genre, and his playing and timing has been way above average. Further, the actual jams have been well above average for 3.0. Everybody is exhibiting stronger-than-usual rhythmic awareness, making for some of the first Phish music that actually has me dancing on a regular basis. (Phish have always been a jam band that was a bit too rigid to actually get me moving. This tour has some real movable grooves happening.
Another point to take note of: the band's intuition of their music theory is really solid now. Take the Sand-> Nellie Cane, Bowie from AC: the inclusion of transitions and teases is being handled with a musical dexterity We might have only wished to hear of in days gone by.
