The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
Sounds to me like someone hit the proverbial nerve, eh?
My two cents.....Back in the late 70's an old Head sat me down on his couch and told me to shut up and listen as he popped a cassette of a '72 soundboard into his player. He sat back, toked up, passed me the pipe and told me "Tours comin' in a month. Time to get your ears ready." I learned that day that this music requires emotional and mental preparation and concentration. You can't "listen" to Phish casually, and that's why we have to shut it down once in a while. It's normal. I didn't think the blog was negative at all......but thoughtful.
