The Mockingbird Foundation is a non-profit organization founded by Phish fans in 1996 to generate charitable proceeds from the Phish community.
And since we're entirely volunteer – with no office, salaries, or paid staff – administrative costs are less than 2% of revenues! So far, we've distributed over $2 million to support music education for children – hundreds of grants in all 50 states, with more on the way.
In an effort to make the MJM level of difficulty commensurate with the new and vastly improved search tools, devised the multi-track, theme-based MJM. To win with this format, a certain amount of effort is required, because even if you identify a track and then the theme, you still need to work to find all the pieces of the puzzle. He and I think that's okay - you shouldn't win in 10 seconds because you recognize a jam and it's game over like that.
Having said that, Pete and I will monitor the results, especially in light of the fact that a couple of really strong players have just been forced to retire. If the multi-track format is simply too difficult, or if it becomes unpopular, we will shake things up, again. Most importantly, we want people to have fun and to look forward to this little distraction from real life each week. If that's not the case, what's the point? So keep sending us your feedback, because we both pay attention and we want this to be something that people enjoy. And, it would be nice if the Blog could notch a win once in a blue moon.
Thanks everyone.
